Create Stunning Fine Art Portraits

Ready to take a giant leap forward with your portrait photography? My one-day intensive Masterclass Workshops are designed to give you everything you need to start start offering fine art portraits to your clients. In each workshop I show you the techniques that I have acquired over the last 25 years. Each workshop is a no holds barred look behind the scenes at all of the tricks and techniques I use to craft a level of image that will have new clients lined up around the block.

What you will learn

We'll start in the studio with a discussion of equipment and a quick walk through of a typical photoshoot. Everyone will have the opportunity to work with our model and lighting and I will be there to guide you.

After a quick break we will come back and begin the retouching process. This is probably what I am most known for and get the most questions about. And we'll go through each step of my process so that you can take full control of your images.

CLASS BREAKDOWN

9AM - 12 NOON

Lighting and Posing

After everyone has their coffee and settles in, we will begin a brief discussion of lighting techniques for fine art. But as much as I love to hear my own voice, I think the most important thing is to start shooting. So, with the help of our beautiful model, I want you to start shooting! My workshops are very hands on and I try to lecture while we work and address your specific frustrations as you take your own pictures. You'll also have a bunch of amazing pictures to use for your portfolio and start offering fine art portraiture to your clients.

12PM - 1PM

Lunch

Lunch isn't provided in the course, but there are a number of great places to eat near the location including Applebee's, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy Johns and more.

1PM - 5PM

Editing in Photoshop

This is the part of the class where we really get down and dirty and start taking a good picture and turning it into a work of art. I will show you all of the tricks I have developed over the more than 20 years I've been using Photoshop. I recommend you have at least a working knowledge of Photoshop to be able to keep up with what I'm doing. So if you understand layers, blending modes and masks you'll be in good shape. But if you don't know what I just said, I would at least take an introductory course to Photoshop before the class.

What You'll Need

  1. A DSLR Camera. If you have a flash please bring it as a trigger.

  2. Lens of 50mm or greater or your favorite portrait lens.**

  3. Basic to intermediate understanding of Photoshop

  4. A laptop with Photoshop and Camera RAW installed**

*If you're looking for a good starter lens I recommend the 50mm f/1.8 or 35mm for cropped frame.

**If you prefer to just watch me edit and not bring a computer that's ok too.
